Pandora Women’s Chorus was founded in 2005 and was the predecessor of The Morningside Singers. Choral singing often attracts more women than men, and this year the male members of Morningside Singers either were accepted into Just Voices, moved away from Atlanta, or left the choir for other reasons. So Pandora has been revived this fall to replace The Morningside Singers as Just Voices’ “sister choir.”
The treble choral repertoire is deep and rich, and Pandora’s performance at our Christmas concert will include a lovely SSA arrangement of “What Child Is This?” and Alessandro Grandi’s Renaissance anthem “Today for Us from Heaven true Peace Descends.” In addition, the women of Just Voices will join with Pandora to perform Mendelssohn’s wonderful motet for treble choir and organ, “Veni Domine,” and Liz Frazer’s own a cappella arrangement of the Appalachian folk hymn “Brightest and Best of the Sons of the Morning.”
Just Voices’ selections will include Darmon Meader’s jazz arrangement of “We Three Kings,” his sensitive setting of the 16th century Coventry Carol, Herbert Howells’ Carol-anthem “Here Is the Little Door,” and other works.
